San Antonio Backflow Plumbing Services
What is Backflow Testing?
A backflow is installed in areas where a possible cross-connection might allow contaminated water to get back into your water system. For example, irrigation systems at home and businesses that might have chemicals mixed with water must have a backflow valve.
Once the backflow is installed some of the mechanical parts may wear out and that is when you need an annual backflow test to ensure proper function.
In a backflow test, our licensed plumbers will perform a safe simulation in which the water will try to come back and see if the valves are closing completely as they should.
Why do you need backflow testing?
Mr. Plumber offers backflow testing to ensure that your backflow is working to keep your potable water safe. If you have an older home, a test will determine if you don’t have required backflows or if they are not up to current code standards.
Backflow tests are required by SAWS and plumbing code at least once a year and in some cases required more than once a year for businesses. Backflows must be tested when installed, repaired, replaced or relocated.
Types of Backflow?
Depending on the level of hazard: low, medium or high, there are different backflows that can be installed on your water pipes by a licensed plumber.
Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB)
The most common and affordable type of whole-system backflow devices. PVBs are simple in design which makes them easy to install, maintain and repair. They are mostly used in pools. It does not prevent back-pressure.
Double Check Valves (DCA)
The most common type of backflow for underground or in-line installations. It prevents back-pressure and back-siphonage, but it is not recommended for high hazard use.
Reduced Pressure Zone Assemblies (RPZ)
The most complex and expensive backflow device. When setup properly, RPZs are the most secure and reliable of all preventive devices. Some homes with septic tanks may require RPZs on irrigation systems.
